Narnia OneSheetsm Chronicles of Narnia Movie
I’m so looking forward to this movie. Anyone have an inside line on whether the film is loyal to the book?

  1. I’ve heard it is, but you know the white which did not have polar bears pulling her sledge. The preview looks good. I’m excited to see it too. However, expect there to be some things which are not the way we imagine them when reading the books and things which they take license with.

  2. I actually do not object to taking some license in order to tighten the narrative for film or to embroider the setting, as long as such liberties are in the “spirit” of the thing. I griped mildly about some of the changes and omissions from the LOTR, but felt the overall project was successful. Naturally, there are some details which are inviolable.

  3. I just wish that someone would make really good movies of the other Narnian books – The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe has been done so many times. Can you imagine Voyage of the Dawn Treader on the big screen? That would really be something. And The Last Battle has just as much to say about Christianity as does TLTWATW.

As for LOTR, it was not so much the omissions (the film is long enough as it is) but the gratuitous additions that irritated me. All that with the Wargs taking Aragorn over the cliff and into the river was totally irrelevant.

  4. Gone,
My unreliable memory tells me that the people who are making TLTWATW are also planning to make films of the other books. Sounds pretty ambitious to me, so don’t quote me.

I agree with you about the useless additions to LOTR.

  5. Pastor:

I noticed that one of your Amazon ads to the right is by one of the professors here at Hillsdale, Brad Birzer. I read J.R.R. Tolkien’s Santifying Myth the summer before last, and it’s great. Dr. Birzer also highlights Tolkien’s relationship with Lewis.

    Blessings.

Ps. Thanks again for the use of your hands.
